scratching out words to reveal a picture's essence- me writing haiku
I am thankful for One Deep Breath because they provide the opportunity to create and share some things dear to me - nature, photography, art and the beauty and simplicity of haiku.

I wanted to comment on your Gandhi hero (he was a superhero) but I like the haiku more;-) Writing haiku's is good and nice to do.
Lovely snyopsis of your craft. I write on the computer, but scribble notes to myself wherever I am in a little moleskin notebook. For many years, I wrote everything out longhand.
marion- welcome. how fun to get sidetracked by haiku ; )
To all those who commented on process - I guess I hadn't thought about long-hand vs. typing. It's an old habit that I like to keep old fashion. It's a joy to read your comments as it takes things a little deeper into one's craft. Thank you.
Really like your words, getzapped. I've heard and read some haikus before, but I've never really know what's the difference compared to a 'poem'...or is haiku a japanese-styled poem?.....Do share :)
james. Cool! I know your incredible illustrations will blow folks away at IF. Good luck!
constance- I play with haiku, but don't adhere to the traditional form. Here is a good link for more info, if you're interested- http://www.toyomasu.com/haiku/#whatishaiku Enjoy!

Both the pic & the haiku perfectly captured this process - very well done!
That tells it perfectly.

I love that you write things out long-hand... for some reason, I do my best work typing...
Lovely haiku.

I always count on my fingers, over and over again. :)
Love the picture... the mad poet!!
Delightful to see your haiku notes. Looks an awful lot like my dream haiku notebook. :-)
Although I don't stick to the 5/7/5 convention in my ku, I'm always counting, too. To keep from exceeding those counts.
I'm always amazed at how much editing I need to do for such a tiny poem. LOL! I wonder if the classic Japanese haijin did the same?

LOL I loved the slash marks and the second line was dead on.
Love the photo and seeing your process. The scratch marks cracked me up. I do the same.
really fun to "see" someone else's way of bringing the words out.
That looks quite like my notebook too. I work equally between notebook and screen these days.
Lovely notebook and haiku. I think we can all agree that One Deep Breath lets us all do so--literally!:)
I'm honored by all of you. It's been a joy sharing our craft. Thank you. Peace and joy.
Great picture and the haiku fits!
