Art & Architecture

This is my response to the challenge "Art+Architecture" at Inspire Me Thursday. I thought this was a good opportunity to post a photo I took last autumn of the National Gallery of Art (West Building), since it holds great art and is a spectacular display of architecture. It is one of my favorite places to explore. I was lucky to make countless visits as a child and young adult, growing up in the DC area. It has inspired me and my art from an early age.

Visit the National Gallery of Art

Hi there! I also love the National Gallery. Where did you grow up near DC? My grandparents lived in Hyattsville, MD, so I visited there a lot.

Anyway...great shot! (And I loved your Zen Cat, too!)

How cool that you too made visits as a child! However, I spent most of my time as a young adult in the East Bldg, being drawn to Modern Art. I lived in different parts of MD, last lived in Annapolis, before heading West in '89. I go back every year and try to make a trip to the Mall. Nothing like that out here. Thanks for stopping by ;)

Yup, the gallery definately gives great photo opportunities. I love this one! For a moment, I thought it was the Parthenon.

This is lovely, the almost abstract feel, the warm colour of the stone....

Zapped, what does it say that I like buildings more than trees?

Great picture.

pod- welcome to the zen side of zippy or moppy ;-)

shannon- thanks.

edwin- I can see why, the NGA is neoclassical in design and modeled on the Roman Pantheon.

crafty- it was a wonderful sunset that evening.

brian- you're a building hugger :)

These two colors together are unusual, grey of the sky and ochre of the pilars. I like this contrast. I like also how the pilars are curved. And the fact that there is also a black line. All of that gives a good rhythm So I'm commenting you photograph as if it was a painting !
