Bipolar - IF

This is an Illustrator piece I created in response to the weekly challenge at Illustration Friday. This week's topic is "Polar". I decided to focus on Bipolar Disorder because, it is a reality many people live with, and my attempt is to bring a sense of the place some people who suffer from this may go at times. I can only imagine the challenges this brings to one's soul.

thumbnails often hide little surprises. Like this one of yours. Had to look up what bipolar disorder means though. Sometimes to all of us the world does not make sense...

I think you have illustrated it very well.

A close friend of mine was diagnosed with bipolar disorder a few years ago. It has been interesting watching him wrestle with his inner desires as they morph and change. Currently, he is doing very well. With someone with this disorder, love ones are always on the look-out for when they're going to go through that "not-so-well" time. It always seems to come. Hopefully, it's not inevitable.

PS- like your new picture!

radiant- this is true, but I think the bipolar person may experience the battle of extremes.

rose- thank you.

lp- yes, someone close to me I believe suffers with this. Untreated it can be detrimental and a horrifying life. I hope your friend continues to do well. Oh, thanks. Blogger made me go to the new version and I lost my old profile...

wonderful illustration; i have a friend also with this disorder; it must be very confusing to live with this inside never being grounded in one spot.

Thank you all for taking time to comment on a subject many people like to pretend doesn't exist or find too difficult to face. I am not surprised by how many of you know someone close that lives with bipolar disorder. I hope they are in doing well. Peace to all.

Beautiful creation! I hear a bubbly sort of dissonance when I look at this- soft at some points, and high pitch, crackly radio waves at others- but it's all somehow held together.
My heart goes out to not only those with BPD- but to their friends and family.

Thanks for this zapped. I know someone too. He's close to me. Very close. Sometimes too close. Always a pleasure...

Really thoughtful interpretation -- poetic and evocative.

I like this - I think it captures some of the seduction of the manic end - I don't have it, but I ve read about it and am cyclothymic (prone to cyclical extreme ups and downs, but not actually Bi-polar) so I undestand why people experiencing mania somtimes enjoy it intially.
