Childhood Story

Treasures of Innocence

I remember making clover bracelets
and collecting bees in jars
playing hop scotch at recess
gazing at clouds and stars

Jumping rope was a favorite
and, boy, could I make a mud pie
to taste was to savor it
look, there's a kite in the sky!

Many days spent in make-believe
bringing life to my paper dolls,
climbing my favorite maple tree
how in the wind it howled-

So fast would we clap patty-cake,
as jacks slide across the floor,
if I had a penny for every leaf I raked
I wouldn't have to work any more-

Memories cascading like a waterfall of time,
as I dare to leave treasures of innocence behind.

This is in gracious response to One Deep Breath. This week's topic is Childhood Story. This is a poem I wrote years ago, but thought it fit well with this prompt, and so I share it with you.

'...as I dare to leave treasures of innocence behind..." Not really left behind when you have poems like this and that image above it. :-)

I agree with Roswila. Not only do I love the collage ( I remember the original photo), but the poem is so heartfelt and pure. One of my favorite posts of yours, and I treasure them all!
Thanks, too, for the sweet comment on my post today. I try to have my blog be a place for inspiration and comfort, and every once in a while I may attempt a little humor :) I always hope the word of the week will promt a peaceful image for me to create and tell a story about.
Now, about you finding the right job and fighting your fear, have you read "Art & Fear?" I'm just now re-reading it and I'm getting so much more from it this time around.I can't believe how much I'm highlighting!! One of the authors just gave me a copy and I've bought 3 for friends this past month. It's written by David Bayles and Ted Orland and is on Amazon cheap. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy. I promise as soon as you start reading it, you'll see why ;)
Have a gentle week my friend.

Adorable collage and fun-loving haibun. All those wonderful games of childhood - the final line is indelible.

This poem resonates with me. How hard we played at all those innocent games! The wind feels like the voice of adulthood haunting childhood memory. The hard work of raking leaves, too! Adulthood would come...Could we know we might have been embarking on a lucrative career? I hear the bamboo rake and the rustle of leaves as I read this poem.

Hello there...I'd be happy to help you pick out some images!
One of my favorites is "Blues."
Other faves are "Your Paradise", "The Zoo", "Grow" and "Fortune." I love "Stitch" and "100% Retro" as great pattern design examples. "Bipolar" and "Rejection" and awesome conceptual pieces. Maybe you could title them because the word behind it makes you say...
"Of course!!"
Other strong ones are "Juggle" "Moon" and "Trick or Treat." You know I love everything you do, right? I hope this was helpful! XX ~L~

Hi Michelle ~ Here is what you asked me for. Keep in mind, I could not limit myself to only a few IF pieces I like because you do such great work, and I guess I would need to view them side by side in order to eliminate any of these! So I decided to list the pieces I like most, and give you my reasons why. Anyway, I am honored you asked my opinion....here you go:
Little Things: Funky, spirited design that shows your range and creativity. This is one of my faves.
Retro: Because it shows your range and awareness of nostalgia and American pop culture.
Stitch: Nice patterns and colors.
Zoo: Love the colors, patterns and icons
Scale: It is commissioned work, which is always good to show.
Grow: Trendy and commercially appealing, esp. to a female target market.
Blues: Shows your range and your work with text and layers well.
Juggle: A great food motif with yummy colors and it is commercially appealing. I could see this as a textile print, a pattern for a menu or trendy cafe.
Green Vines: Colors are great and it is commercially appealing.
