Bodies of Water

bow, starboard, port
stay sail, main sail, jib sheet,
dodging ducks

This needs a little background to appreciate it. Tuesday evenings (May-Oct) on Lake Union is the Duck Dodge Race. I've never participated, but I get the impression these boats are racing around trying to NOT run over the little rubber ducks (and anything else that might be in its way, like a kayaker) to win the race. Of course, with the lovely summer weather we experience here, these sailors are doing more than racing, I'm quite sure.

This is in gracious response to One Deep Breath. This week's topic is "Bodies of Water".

How fun! Too many Coronas though and they'll run over the ducks...and then some.
Palmolive hands...you crack me up! I guess that IS where I got the hand from come to think of it :)

Am relieved to read that these are only rubber ducks (thus transforming the harbour in a gigantic bath tub).

Pretty picture. :)

I've read about lots of rubber duck races recently.

Even without your commentary, I got a clear picture of these big sailboats avoiding little ducks of some sort. Lovely image both in the haiku and the photo....

Cheerful and fun post. I smiled at your comment about avoiding the occasional kayak. That would be me.

Now, I'm picturing canoeing among the rubber duckies... Guess I'd be yet another obstacle.

(Though this spring, I did get to go on a sail with my in-laws, down a canal and into Lake Michigan. Mostly, we were dodging other sailboats.)

All is so peaceful I can hear the wind on the sails, and the lapping of the water

This lake seems so huge, almost a sea !
It is incredible !

It seems as if they must work quite hard indeed to avoid those duckies. Lovely poem.
